The POSRT has been implementing restoration activities throughout focused on native salmonid recovery and protection in WRIA 62 since 2000. Currently the Team has been involved with approximately 28 projects funded by the SRFB. The amount of SRFB funding invested in WRIA 62 is approximately $4,037,531 with an additional $1,035,415 contributed as local match. The projects are typically focused on restoration activities such as fish passage issues in priority streams, riparian restoration, road obliteration, in-stream habitat restoration and assessments that lead to restoration projects or a better understanding of limiting factors for native salmonids. We are currently developing an implementation schedule that outlines the priority projects for a period of 3 years. This schedule will be available for use in 2012 SRFB funding cycle. In 1998, the Washington State Legislature enacted HB 2496 to empower citizens at the community level to engage in salmon recovery through a locally driven habitat protection and restoration program. The legislation recognized that active local participation is the key to ensuring public participation in, and support for, salmon recovery. Lead entity organizations are in place to perform a necessary role in salmon habitat recovery activities in Washington State as provided in Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 77.85 Salmon Recovery (HB2496). The 27 current Lead Entities operate with funds provided by the state Legislature and administered through the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO).
Using the POSRT Strategy (2007), the TAG identifies technically sound salmon habitat restoration opportunities (a subset from the implementation schedule) and promotes a list of rated projects to the CAG. Typically these projects come from one of the high or medium priority watersheds (see map) identified in the POSRT Strategy. The CAG then discuss the feasibility, cost effectiveness, and level of community support for each of the projects while using a set of approved criteria to rank the individual projects. Finally, the CAG presents the final list of ranked projects with a recommendation for funding. This ranked project list is then submitted to the SRFB for final funding approval.

This system was developed to provide the public with information on SRFB funded projects throughout the state. HWS provides a map of the past and present projects as well as details on each individual project for the Pend Oreille Lead Entity area as well as access to the other Lead Entities and projects throughout the state.
